Hydraforce cartridge valve is a multifunctional composite valve consisting of the basic components of a cartridge valve (spool, sleeve, spring and seal) inserted into a specially designed and processed valve body with a cover plate and a pilot valve. Because each Hydraforce cartridge valve basic component has only two ports, we call it a two-way cartridge valve. It was also known as a logic valve in the past.
1、What are the advantages of 2-way hydraforce cartridge valve?
The two-way cartridge valve has the following characteristics:
1. It offers a large flow capacity and small pressure loss, making it suitable for large-flow hydraulic systems.
2. The main spool stroke is short, resulting in sensitive action, fast response, and minimal impact.
3. It has strong resistance to oil contamination and does not require strict oil filtration accuracy.
4. The valve features a simple structure, which allows for easy maintenance, fewer failures, and a long service life.
5. The plug-in design includes a valve with multi-functional characteristics, facilitating the formation of various hydraulic circuits that are stable and reliable.
6. Additionally, the plug-in features general-purpose, standardized, and serialized high-degree parts, which you can use to compose integrated systems.
The plug-in has generalisation, standardisation and high degree of serialisation of parts, which can form an integrated system.
2、What are the components?
A hydraforce cartridge valve consists of four parts: the cartridge element, the control cover, the pilot control element and the cartridge block. Image 1 shows the typical structure of a two-way hydraforce cartridge valve.

The control cover plate is used to hold the cartridge, to mount the pilot control valve and to house the prismatic valve, relief valve, etc. The control cover plate contains a control oil passage with one or more damping screw plugs. Typically the cover plate has five control oil holes: X, Y, Z1, Z2 and centre hole a (see Figure 2). Since the cover plate is designed for general use, some holes on a particular control oil circuit may be blocked and not used. To prevent incorrect installation of the cover plate, the positioning holes on the cover plate mark its orientation. In addition, before removing the cover plate, it is necessary to see and remember the installation method of the cover plate.
The pilot control element, called the pilot valve, is a small bore solenoid directional valve. The block serves as the basic valve body where the cartridge element is embedded. It also houses the control cover plate and other control valves. Additionally, the block facilitates communication between the main oil line and the control oil line.
3、How are hydraforce cartridge valves classified?
Depending on the application, they are classified as directional valve assemblies, pressure valve assemblies and flow valve assemblies. The three assemblies have the same installation dimensions for the same diameter, but have different spool configurations and valve seat diameters. All three assemblies have two main ports A and B and one control port x, as shown in 3.

According to the different installation methods, we can categorize the Hydraforce cartridge valve into two types: the two-way cartridge valve and the threaded cartridge valve.
Two-way cartridge valves install by pressing screws into (or tapping into) the socket of the valve block. These valves have a minimum diameter of 16mm and a maximum diameter of 160mm, with commonly used diameters including 16mm, 25mm, 32mm, 40mm, 50mm, 63mm, 80mm, 100mm, 125mm, and 160mm. They can handle a maximum working pressure of 42MPa and a maximum flow rate of 25,000L/min, making them suitable for high-pressure and high-flow hydraulic systems.
Threaded cartridge valves install by screwing threads directly into the socket of the valve block. Therefore, they are also called screw-in cartridge valves. These valves have a minimum diameter of 3mm and a maximum diameter of 32mm. Commonly used diameters include 4mm, 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 16mm, and 20mm. They can handle pressures up to 63MPa and flows up to 760L/min. These features make them suitable for high-pressure, small and medium-flow hydraforce cartridge valve systems.
